Craig Clontz, an employee with the Baltimore County Public Schools has been arrested by detectives from the Baltimore County Crimes Against Children Unit and charged with five counts of possession of child pornography following an investigation that was launched earlier this year.

During the investigation, it was determined that Clontz was a school employee when he was busted with the child pornography, though officials noted that “at this point in their investigation, detectives do not believe any of the images recovered depict Baltimore County Public Schools students.”

The nature of the child porn that was recovered by investigators was not disclosed by detectives.

In a letter sent to the community, school officials confirmed that Clontz is an art teacher at Stemmers Run Middle School in Essex. He’s been employed by the district since 2021, having previously worked as a teacher at Catonsville Middle School.

He was placed on administrative leave following his arrest.

“These charges are deeply troubling and are a violation of our school's core values and the values of our school system," Stemmers Run Middle School Principal Bryan Thanner stated. "We understand that students may have questions and concerns about this arrest and may need to speak with someone to process their feelings in a safe space."

Conltz is being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.
